Yes he had Glamdring with him in Moria, it shone of white just like Frodo's Sting did blue, and it certainly got acquainted with the balrog. Check the LOTR thread here in Gen Sci-Fi, I posted pictures of them. But, in the book, he does say "you cannot pass". Four times, actually. And apparently, he does have his sword w/ him at that point. I'm not sure why it didn't occur to me before to reach a couple feet to my left and behind me to pick the book up off of my dresser and check it...
