Okay, the guy is a newbie, and it shows. So he made a few posts by mistake. So what?
Does that mean people should act like jerks and tear his throat out with every post? Absolutely not.
Many of us (myself included) were a little ungainly in our first month or two here. We'd do well to remember that. There's (usually) no excuse for rudeness. Especially towards new members who haven't quite gotten the hang of things.
I'm asking people, particularly Vogon Poet and Topher, to lay off with the causticity. Please. I'm quite displeased to see it lurking about.

Topher's a mod, so I'm not sure he personally is a valid target for this thread. In blaming all involved parties whether they're responsible or not, he's just implementing forum policy.

Agreed, but while Topher's mod-action in the TNG first contact thread was a perfectly valid one, crap like this post is out of line IMO. (And ironically so, considering that he himself started that thread in a rather newbie-ish oversight of his own. )

Thank you - considering I made a VERY vaid point in that thread, among others, on topics, such as the above thread regarding something that I see has been discussed many times on this forum, to which I have the time of research to back it up. I have long been a guest, and a long time back a former member of this site, and there is nothing more refreshing than joining a site, just to find I am a frickin' leper here for bringing in some original ideas and defending myself as no one else (mind, Mmom) seems to be effectively moderating mindless attacks.
How does that go..."power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely"? I think I have made a valid point, and believe me this has been well edited....because I am HERE to talk about trek with people who have the same interest in it that I have....that is why I decided to join

I would just like to say that nobody is perfect, we all make mistakes. I've made some big ones in my time. However I was always under the impression that if there's something going on in a thread, you don't carry it over to another.

Not to put off a "how dare thee question us" vibe, but this sort of shit gives the place a bit of a TrekBBSey smell that I'm not so fond of. Kiss and make up by all means, but please don't start passing off an attack of chronic anal-retentive overthetopness as some kind of open forum where concerned citizenstm discuss the lifethreatening actions of various posters, including moderators.

FG: Honestly, if you get this uptight about the stuff people have said to you so far, you probably wouldn't last here very long even if people did try to make an effort to refrain from insulting you.

No, I am uptight about being treated like stupid shit on a forum when I am/was using it exactly as it is intended. Sarcasm, jabs and humor I dont mind and/or enjoy, but plain old 'being an asshole, for no absolute reason' is a little uncalled for. If everyone here already knows everything about star trek yet feels the need to be pissing on everyone else for discussing it to enjoy or understand it better, then I dont understand why they are on here for in the first place.

That's strange....I'm kinda new here myself and the only time I ever get smartass reamrks is when I make a typo.... ...or spell anything wrong, mis-quote anyone or have a diffrent opinion than the majority of the board...HEY! YOU ARE ALL DICKS!!!!!
Seriously I think that Futureguy could be more thick-skinned but I have also seen members of the forums snipe at (Vorgon Poet for example) somebody on multiple threads without any real imput on the thread's topic. Some people DO suck and this is not really the most welcoming environment for a newbee. THere is however alot of very talented and cool people here too and they keep me coming back to argue minute details and pointless trivia about Trek and the world in general.

The only times I ever get sniped at is when I make a stupid post, or post something that (after I look at it later)was a really dumb thing to say.
You just have to take in in stride, and not let it destroy the whole Flare experience. I didn't.

Excuse me, I'm not picking on him (yet!). 8)
Sorry, kidding. My only interaction with him has been that thread which he posted about some discussion in another thread. I made a reply that was meant to be a joke, he took it badly and was rude to me. I was rude back, and I'm much better at it than him. Since then I've stayed out of that thread in the interests of not escalating things further.
ASnd that's all I really want to say about it, because frankly I'm bored with it all. I'm thinking of packing all this in for good. I don't watch Star Trek anymore, most of the people here I care about talk with via ICQ and email anyway, so what's the point? I fully expect a New Poll to appear entitled "Vogon Poet is a Troll who is Horrid and Mean to Everyone: Yes or No?" anyday now. . . 8)

Oh, come on; Futurama Guy, lighten up. Don't take stuff so personally, it's not like you actually have to talk to the people here on a day to day basis or even to reply if someone does make a comment. For the record it does actually appear to be a mistake in FG's understanding of VP's first post; the list of first contacts didn't appear to have any point, no request for additional data or assessments or whatever. Granted that was implicit but I do think FG over reacted.
I don't think this board has a particular problem with pickinh on people, not since the 'I am very dissapointed' thread, anyway. it's usually just a lighthearted pisstake of spelling mistakes etc.
