Actually, it makes perfect sense, if you take the site seriously. An "Atheist for Jesus" would be a person who, though He doesn't believe in the Christian God as Advertised, or in JC's divinity, believes that Jesus the MAN's philosophy was a laudable and benevolent one. I can agree with this. He also, as I do, believes that the Gospel of Jesus has been corrupted over time, due mostly to the influence of Paul. (Although he goes farther than I might, in claiming there is evidence that John's beastly 666 refers to Paul.)

One would think that underdtanding that one's opponent does not believe in the validity of the Bible would be a clear signal that quoting scripture would be a waste of time.

Just ask a Bible Fanatic if they believe in Dinosaurs. When they say "yes", ask them to explain how old they are!!
Some religeous sects, groups, whatever, believe that the earth is 4000 years old, only. I know that doesn't include EVERY religeous group.. however, born-again-christian do !!
I had a Born-Again tell me that when I'm writing stories (Star trek and such) I am wasting my talent.. that my life should be dedicated to spreading the word of God and Jesus. Fanatics like that drive me nuts !!
I'm not a religeous person ... but I respect believe who have a believe in something beyond themselves .. I just don't want them to force their believe on me!!

Dane: They slimed you for mentioning the book. The point is, they (atheists) don't care what the book has to say because they don't believe it.

_I_ know John 14:6. It's nothing new, and just about the same thing David Koresh and every other wannabe Messianic leader ever said. Thusly, unimpressive.
More telling is John 14:14, and how truly often that promise has been kept (not).

Due to some "unacceptable" posts made to my Discussion Page a few days ago, I did a search to see who was talking about my group (BTW, I don't think the negative posts came from anyone here). During the search I found your discussion from January and I hope you don't mind a late reply.
"Two for One" pretty much hit the nail on the head! 20 years of research has led me to believe that Jesus of Nazareth (not Jesus Christ, who I believe to be a fiction created by the 'self-appointed' apostle, Paul), taught a message of love and kindness that even an old heretic such as myself can admire.
I hope that some of you will consider dropping by my site: www.atheistsforjesus.com and checking it out. Don't be scared off by the "666" reference. While I do believe that my hypothesis that it stood for Paul is as probable as any of the other theories out there, the important thing is the information that my playing with that number puzzle led me to about the doctrinal battle between the Original Apostles (who had traveled with Jesus for three years) and Paul (who had never met the historical Jesus but, as did Jim Jones and David Koresh, claimed to have had a vision from Jesus. I found the information to be quite interesting and maybe you would to.
