quote:I'll have to look up those statistics, but I believe it's a statistical fact that the average Republican has at least a college degree, while the average Democrat has a high-school education.
So, if college is so "liberal" and all that, how does it hold true that a conservative can get though without being "changed"?
Maybe, just maybe, those folk who are very conservative already can afford to send little Chip and Buffy to school. While immigrant family man Joe Union has to settle for a generation or two later for family who wants to work full time and go to college.
Different cultures place different values on education that vary from social level to class level.
And I'll say again, being a Democrat does not mean you are a liberal.

The idea that a Democrat is a liberal is about as accurate as saying that a Republican has a white hood in his closet and likes to go lynching blacks on Friday nights.
Am I a liberal? Damn straight. Why am I a liberal? Well, honestly, I was always more of a moderate ... before I came to Towson U., I:
- Supported the death penalty - Supported guns - Supported *some* other Republican party positions
(I have never *EVER* wavered in my belief that just because you are gay you should be denied certain rights such as marriage -- I have always thought of myself as an advocate - at least to my circle of friends - of Gay Rights, that is a position that I have never changed on, nor *will* ever change on)
Um, sorry, just wanted to make that clear for some reason ...
Well, I changed my views. I'll admit -- I became more liberal (I've always been a democrat) simply in order to get in bed with cute girls.
Then I found myself defending liberal positions against more conservative friends of mine, and came to the realization that I am a liberal.
I AM A LIBERAL!
"Let no man tell you different, you are Duncan MacLeod of the Clan MacLeod!"
Well, in my case, it was,
"Dammit, let no Conservative tell me different! I am Duncan MacLeod of the Clan MacLeod!"
Oh, wait ...
Right, back to the topic. Anyway, that's why I'm a liberal. Mind you, less than 6 months ago, I was much more moderate ... I called myself a "conservative Democrat" ... hey, cute girls can do such amazing things to a person ...
Wait, what was the topic? Oh, right.
It's unfair to group Republicans/Hatemongers as it is to group Democrats/Liberal. Obviously, Republicans are more to the right, Democrats more to the left, but that doesn't mean a person is neccessarily a liberal any more than they are a member of the KKK.
See, the thing is that 98% of Democrats ARE liberals, so it really is a legitimate assumption. Compare that to the .001% of Republicans that are KKK. Not a valid comparison.

Really Omega? Where do you come up with those numbers?

I highly doubt a form was given to each and every voter in the USA like below:
VOTER SURVEY ------------ Are you:
A) Democrat B) Republican C) Green D) Reform E) Awaiting your green card
If you are a Democrat, are you a: A) Liberal Democrat B) Democratic Liberal C) Liberal Liberal D) Liberalistic Liberal Democratic Liberal
If you are a Republican, are you: A) Much more intelligent than any Democrat, B) More informed than any Democrat, C) White supremacist D) Better looking, more charismatic and just plain sexier than all those uneducated, slovenly, Sixth year HS student Liberals.
I see how that could yield his results.

Almost any reputable political scientist outside the US would say that both American political parties are right-of-centre when one considers "centre" in the globalized average sense.

The funny thing is, they think you hate them back, when in fact, you just couldn't be bothered to care. Now in Ireland, it's a different story. At least we had the common decency to wait until the English invaded before we started hating them. I guess the Canadians are hating you in advance..." -Irish Comic Ed Byrne on Canada-US relations

Still waiting for the rationalization of those numbers. Or you could just say you made them up.

"Yes, but the globalized average sense is pretty irrelevant to internal US politics."
True. You don't want to start comparing yourselves to other countries. That's what commies do.

Do you realize that you just said in the above passage that you were AGAINST gay marriage?

Yep, I did make those numbers up off the top of my head. It's called an "example". People refuse to admit to being anything in polls, claiming to be moderates. Don't ask me why.
Now as for the reasoning behind the first number, how else do you explain people voting for Gore? Gore is liberal. People vote for Gore. Therefore, said people are liberal. Make sense?
'Course, then you've got your 2% who are dumb enough to believe that Bush is stupid, and voted for Gore on THAT basis...
As for the KKK number, considering the total membership of the KKK is in the tens of thousands, and something like fifty million people voted for Bush...
