I am going to be gone for a few days, but I want to start a dicussion and see where it goes. It's about the new anti-piracy plan Microsoft is going with. I read bad things about it and I am personally against it. I don't want to have to ask Microsoft permission to use something I bought. And I also build my computers on my own, so next time I upgrade my system and have to redo the whole thing, I don't want to deal with some 'Service Rep' to get permission to use my software AGAIN. If you ask me Microsoft is asking for trouble.
So, dicuss, debate, babble, and digress. I will be back Saturday.

I've tested XP at work, and its fairly simple. You dont have to ask.. its just letting know MS that you are a liscenced product owner. I really think its harmless, actually. Furthermore, if you dont want to deal with it (as I imagine a lot of people wont), dont buy it. its that simple.
That brings up another point. Why to people complain about products as if they absolutely had to buy them?

I'm content with Windows 2000 Pro for now. Might look into getting a hold of Office XP. Looks to be really good. I never heard anything about this whole licensing thing, but then again I've been out of touch with my friend who usually tells me about this kind of stuff...

I have Win2000 Pro and OfficeXP. I will not be getting WinXP until i get a feel for the final release, and even then, i'll keep a dual boot with Win2000 Pro.

Not that I'm criticising or anything, but, er, what are you implying then?

It isn't as though I haven't met a lot of people. Goodness knows it isn't that. It isn't just that... it isn't... it's... it's despicable.

Ahh. Well, I can sleep easier now knowing that Wesley Button (AKA Wes1701) 'aquires' his software, but doesn't pirate it. Thank you Daryus Aden (AKA Daryus Aden).

Actually, I have copied versions of Microsoft Office 2000, which make me slightly hypocritical, since I don't condone copying games. My only (really bad) defence is that I can, in no way, afford Office 2000, but it is really useful to my course at university. Games are unneccesary, a luxury, and so I buy them. And, if I had the money, I'd buy Office 2000. But having only just got back into 3 figure dept, I can't.
Anyone else do that? I know Omega will say that breaking the law, even in small degrees, is illegal, but what makes some stuff acceptable to some, but not other stuff? Why do I take mp3s off other peoples CD's, but not like doing copies of the entire thing?
Or we could carry on this very entertaining discussion of how Windoze (HA! Do you see the pun?!) sux.

My god, I must have been tired. I'm all over the place there.
I kinda meant that Omega would say that all illegal activity is bad and evil and people should burn for it. Jaywalking copying mp3s, lending video tapes to friends, and so on. And I was asking what makes us able to do some illegal stuff without caring, but not others. But it came out all blurby.
Let's talk about monkeys.
