I don't think I follow. The spin off is called Caprica, and is intended to be set some fifty years earlier, prior to the original Cylon rebellion. (Assuming it actually gets made.)

Please do not be alarmed. Google knows everything about you.
The webisodes(shudder) are totally not Caprica at all, they're just a prologue to the new season. Unfortunately season 3 goes even further with the middle east analogies, although they're not very fitting for a number of reasons.
I don't think Caprica will still go ahead. RDM is very in tune with the fan community, and the negative response to the spin-off's plans won't have gone unnoticed. Besides, having one series based on Caprica and another based on New Caprica would confuse those all important "casual viewing morons" who can't grasp what's going on unless the entire story is resolved in the space of 45 minutes.

I haven't noticed the negative reaction to Caprica that you have, Johnny. I think it's a neat idea, done right, which is of course, something I trust RDM to do.

Plus I don't think BSG will still be centered around New Caprica when the new series airs, so not much chance of confusion when you think about it.

Sorry, for my confusion. My paranoid mind had me thinking this was all some elaborate ruse in order to cast for the webisodes.
Because I strive for awesomest (and mostly out of nerdiness), I strung the videos together before I watched them so I wouldn't have to be interrupted by trailers (i.e. spoilers) and SFC headers. And while it works pretty well all jammed together, there are a couple rough transitions.

Good point about the two Capricas not being broadcast at the same time, I suppose New Caprica will be left behind during the middle of this season sometime(or even sooner, the way things are going).
I do think Caprica has had a bad reception though. The fact that it takes place before the first Cylon war is the main criticism. Of course Galactica isn't only about explosions and killer robots, the human stories are what's most interest. But it does seem a waste to set a prequel at a time which is apparently before anything very interesting happens.
