Actually, I'm surprised more people here didn't have the passing sort of familiarity with Hercules/Xena. Especially in the US, where episodes of both shows seemed to be played in front of TNG and DS9 in syndication.
But, fine. Happy now?
When Bill Shatner dies, I'll be sure to post "Guy Who Played Bald Dude With Toupee on Star Trek Dies" since I don't want to confuse one William Shatner with some other one that might be around someplace. Heaven forbid.
Patrick Stewart'll be: "Guy Who Played Bald French Dude With No Toupee on Star Trek TNG Dies" and Avery Brooks'll get: "Really Cool Guy With Deep Voice Who Had Hair Then Shaved It And Was Bald And Had A Goatee on DS9 Has Died I Just Didn't Want To Confuse Him With Someone Else Named Avery Brooks, So Sorry."
You know, UM, you're really not an idiot. You are, however, being a real asshole.

Oh Xena! Yeah i have less than a passing familiarity for it. You see, even though it was often played in tandem with DS9 and TNG, i often skipped Xena/Hercules because i dont actually like watching shit.

Ah... I retract my "never heard of him". Of the few "Xena" and "Hercules" episodes I've seen, some of them featured Ares. Honestly, I didn't think he was very good, but maybe that was just the character...

I too first thought you were referring to the Kevin 'silent bob' Smith. While I was relieved in a way that it wasn't him, I'm a little ashamed of it. I hate to hear of things like this: "Guy almost get's his big deal, dies before it happens" type stories.
I must echo that RIP.

You know what, though? Saying "different Kevin Smith Dead" is belittling the Kevin Smith who died. Why does he have to be the "different" Kevin Smith?

You chill out. I post a thread, and UM is accusing me of taking advantage of a person's death to make people think another person is dead. That's pretty god-damn harsh, and I'll say so. UM's a nice guy on average, but sometimes he can be a real prick.

Yes, because the first thing you did when thinking I'd belittled one Kevin Smith was not to PM me, but rather to attack me in the forum, wasn't it? You're not exactly innocent in this mud-slingin', UM.
"...UM is accusing me of taking advantage of a person's death to make people think another person is dead. That's pretty god-damn harsh..."
I wouldn't say it's harsh. I'd guess everyone probably thought that that was what you were doing. It's what I assumed, but I didn't really care, so I didn't say anything.

You know, I could understand people thinking that if I was looking through the paper and some trashman who happened to be named "Kevin Smith" died and I posted a thread about that.
But this Kevin Smith was fairly well known in his own right. And I'm getting kind of tired of defending posting a thread to memoralize his death. I'm sure Kevin Smith got tired of people confusing him with Kevin Smith. "D'oh! Why did that New Jersey asshole have to get my name? Why couldn't his parents name him 'Mike' or something?!"

For the love of...I don't know, Zeus, drop it, you've made your point, and, as seems to be the growing trend, hammered it deep below the ground.

Simon, I'm a bit bitter about this thread. I feel the need to defend posting a thread about an actor who died whose name happens to be Kevin Smith. I feel the need to point out that I'm not all about taking advantage of one guy's death to make people think another guy died. If it takes beating that into the ground with a sledgehammer, so be it.
