1st of 2: Actually, they just found out that Neanderthals are a whole other species of primates that were separate from the ones that evolved into the humans today, but that's a whole other story.

The Neanderthals were actually transported to the future in 3509 by time travelers working for "Save the Neanderthals," a group protecting endangered species. The Neanderthals exists (or will exist) in a natural habitat in Sibera (the climate changes, trust me.)
