Well, Florida ...

We've got an abandoned ballot box located in a polling center in Florida ... any ballots in there? No one knows yet, although it is in a Democratic county, so this could be good news for Gore ...

We've also got the whole Buchannan thing ... confusing ballots? Possible. If they are, how do we (we as in the "American People") go about rectifying it? Should it be rectifyed? (Bush supporters: if the position were reversed, and these ballots could swing the votes in Bush's favor, what would you advocate?)

Absentee ballots ... TEN DAYS they've got to arrive! You mean it could be November 17th and we still wouldn't know who won the White House? Yes, the Florida election "whomever" said that absentee ballots rarely tip the scales in one persons favor or another, but this is a very close election ... Bush is only leading by 1700 votes or so as I write this ... (hell, that ballot box -- if it IS full -- could put Gore on top).

Speaking of which, CNN earlier mused about the possibility, that with Gore winning the popular vote, that even if Bush wins all the electorate votes, that those CASTING the electorate votes might not vote for Bush on Dec. 18th, instead siding with the man who won the popular vote ...

That said, I will reserve judgement on who has won the Presidency of the United States of America until December 19th (unless one candidate wins both popular AND electorate...)

Argh. Damn, this is one *hell* on an exciting time, ain't it?!?!?!

With communism, no excitement is needed. Just plain, good old socialism.

Damn capitalist pigs.

I mean really.

Yes.

Communism. The most socialist of all the 'ism's. It's in you to vote.

Please vote for the Communist Party of Canada This November 27th.

That "ballot box"... it was full of crayons.

You might also want to know that historically, recounts will almost always reenforce the original call. That, combined with the fact that the military will definitely vote Bush, and I have no doubt whatsoever.

Crayons? Sentient crayons who have a RIGHT to have their vote counted?!?!

Oh well ...

We've seen a lot of "historically" broken this past few hours ... it could go any way ... with both Gore & Bush promising completely different views of the future of the military, it might not go the way its been predicted ... I guess we'll have to wait and see.

Hey, why not just have a republic where both of them would be in charge?

How about a duel to decide?

Gore gets a lightsaber, Bush can use a rapier! =)

"both of them in charge"?

like, a coalition government? Or, as the dictionary defines 'coalition government,' "any form of government that falls apart in less than two years."

Like the ad in the paper about the 3 Presidents, a Nixon like guy for dealing with China, one for dealing with the domestic problems, and one as the CINC of the military. They used the Roman Empire as an example, or a Pres. and a couple of ministers with powers almost equal to the Presidents.

Okay, Florida has disqualified 19,200 votes in Florida County (that's where the whole "confusing" ballot was). Residents are filing lawsuits saying the ballot confused them.

Now, I'm not to sure how you actually vote in the US, and I don't want to make assumptions about the average Americans intelligence, but isn't it a matter of ticking a couple of boxes? Or have they actually hidden the polling stations, and to get to them and vote you have to follow a series of clues, spaced apart by various physical challenges?

It could make a good game show...

Florida has used the same ballots for YEARS. the chances that the ballots just NOW became 'confusing' is very small indeed. What you have here is either a bunch of very stupid people, or Gore voter fraud (because the people are saying "but we wanted to vote for Gore!")

The FL Attorney General in charge of the recount is an ardent Gore supporter, so I'd watch out for unfairness that way, too.

I hear some other states are having recounts, as well. Hmm...

The ballot takes different forms in different states. In that county of Florida, there are holes you're supposed to punch in the card, next to the name of the cantidate. There're arrows leading from the name to the hole, and the type is quite large. There was no confusion. It can only be a ploy.

After seeing the ballots on TV, I can see how people could be confused. But it doesn't matter. If you don't ask for help at that time, while you are voteing, you are out of luck. No "do overs" in voteing. This may well be the closest election ever, in the USA, but there have been close ones before, and if we survive as a nation, there will be close ones again.
