It appears to be a Paint Can Lid class starship. Cool!
Heh. Seriously - if it is - what is it sitting on? It can't be the top of the pylon - to small and it'd be off-centre. And there appears to be a nacelle behind it - (our left).

It looks like the Stargazer model and it may have been used as a placeholder for lighting of a bluescreened Nebula or other ship with a model to large to just slap on there.
....or this is the elusive Loch Ness class: a ship only vaguely seen with no definitive evidence of it's existance.

It looks to me like a plastic lid resting on top of the docking ring, but it'd be nice if it were a ship.

Just made an interesting observation. The design for the first human warpship from the Chronology is canon. It appeared on a wall chart in Keiko's class room.

It's probably one of the multitude of foamcore ships they used for motion control shots.

I thought we already knew that they'd used that picture -- IIRC a Sternbach painting for the Chronology originally -- in the school room, along with other stuff like the Starfleet Command map of all the planets visited by the Enterprise during Kirk's five-year mission...
And anyway, couldn't we say that the ship itself is now canon, but it's just not the first warp ship any more? Maybe it's the second...

Or maybe it's an upgrade that Cochrane did after the first flight or something. It's really not that much different from the final Phoenix design. In fact, the movie design was loosely based upon Jein's original model.
And, yes, it's not new info that it appeared in the schoolroom on DS9. The Encyclopedia mentions that.

Hmm, haven't noticed this before. Anyway, the Encyclopedia just mentions the model, not the wall chart.
