This is a dune buggy. It has 4 wheels. They are made of rubber and are filled with air. It can drive really fast and has a big cannon.

Although I didn't think the inclusion of the vehicle in the movie was necessary (and that it was perhaps worse that it was a violation of the Prime Directive than it just being conceived of), thanks Masaki for providing the scan. I for one don't have access to the Japanese Fact Files, so keep those 3-views coming!

Everytime I see this damn thing I shudder. All I keep remembering is Kirk's line from 'A Piece of the Action' when he saw the 'fliver': "Wheels, Mr. Spock". As in he hadn't seen them on a vehicle in some time.

And it's about the 'style' of the Fact Files' writing. In fact, I think he hit it dead on. Let me quote from one of the other articles...
Ah, here's one about Talarian ships. It has an arrow pointing to the engines, with a caption reading: "The aft section contains the engines, which generate dangerous radiation." Let's see, there was one that stands out in my memory...
Bingo. In the article on the Class 8 probe that brought K'Ehlyr to the Enterprise, it calls out some raised detailing on the surface of the probe with the caption: "Raised ridges were located on the external casing of the probe." Really. Gee. I never would have guessed. Many of the other offerings are of similar lobotomised calibre.

Seeing that thing from head on, it really doesn't look very stable. A strong wind or a 10 mph turn with Worf standing up would send that thing rolling.

If you watch the Behind-the-Scenes special on the Nemesis DVD, the stunt driver actually accidentally rolls the argo jeep and it doesn't look like he was going overly fast...

That's the reason why I think we SAW a 'dune buggy' it was to blend in with the vehicles the pre-warp natives were using... although they could have thrown away a line for that... unless they didn't think of it that way... which is probably the case.
I can't believe after going to watch "The Last Samurai" That John Logan wrote that movie AS WELL as Nemesis... something is terribly wrong there. It's got to do with Stewart and Spiner's fingers' in the pie.

Well, further bonus material tidbits on the Nemesis DVD indicate that the vehicle wasn't even specially built for the film, but that it was just some special dune buggy they rented from an offroad specialist and added some minor modifications to.
Also Patrick Stewart is shown to be an avid fan of these "things", extremely eager to have one in a Star Trek film.
Add that to him having some involvement in the script and, Bingo!
