The Long Kiss Goodnight was an excellent tongue-in-cheek flick. I really enjoyed it, and it is just one of many reasons why Samuel L. Jackson is THE MAN.

Am I an ABGIFDEW? American-born German-Irish-French-Dutch-English-Welsh?

And wouldn't a Canadian-born anything already be American-born, as well?

Had the film been tounge in cheek it would have been a vast improvement, as the dialouge would have been replaced with various mumbling noises.

Um, Electron? As I understand it, something like 80% of China can't speak Mandarin & actually speaks whatever fun little subdialect lives in the area.

Plus the cast isn't very Chinese. Michelle Yeoh is Thai(? Singapori?) & Chow Yun-Fat is as well. (I think)

Nimsy-poo: "Urple?" Is that one of the new Crayola colors like Bile & Bloody Colon Crimson?

Exactly, a film about ancient China, and they can't even get a cast that speak decent Mandarin.

It is like getting New Yorkers to play John Wayne cowboy movies! Most people in the States don't have that "cowboy" accent, but man, it would be screwed up to get people without the accent to play the movie.

Same situation apply here, you either do the movie in Cantonese, or in Mandarin, but don't get Cantonese speaking cast to play Mandarin speaking characters!

And it's not only about the language part that I'm pissed off at, the movie totally twisted the view of ancient Chinese heroism, and Chinese romance.

I guess you really have to read the books to understand what I'm talking about.

Shik: Quite obviousely, Urple, and it's sister colour, Light Urple, are some of the few colours that end in Urple.

I just saw "Once Upon A Time In China" with Jet Li. Not as serious as the tiger-dragon, but it had some good scenes, especially the final fight.

Hmm, once upon a time in china was a good movie, but the best Jet Li movie has to be Fist of Legend. Some of the best fight scenes ever

yeah man, that one kicked ass, especially when he duke it out with the Japanese "robot" dude.

But man, I still have to say the original "fist of legend" by Bruce Lee is better.
