Was wondering if anyone else here played. I know Charles "Sheep" Capps used to. A friend of mine got me hooked -- wow! This is so much better then GoldenEye or even Rainbow Six.
I usually play on the "Smash or Be Smashed" server (Look out for Po'BabyJesus and Wake -- they're both friends of mine, and they're good). So far, I've been unable to get the game running on my computer. I'm missing a "dll" or "dlls" file -- but, my friend is DLing it and will install it while I'm away on vacation. Once I get my cable modem installed (sometime either this week or next), I'll be ready to kick ass full time (instead of just borrowing time on my friend's machine). If anyone was on that server last night, I was Malnurtured Sow.
So far my skill isn't quite that good. I still get killed way more then I cap some baddies, but I'm improving. Got two CTs in a row last night -- and was I excited!!! So, I am improving. I'd have to say my favorite weapons are the MP-5 Navy, the M-16 (silenced), and the great terrorist-only gun, the AK-47.
Anyhoo, when I get the game working (I should be online fairly regularly come this weekend), look for me on "Smash or Be Smashed" as "Malnurtured Sow" or, perhaps, "PoBabyPope" or something along those lines.

I used to play CS a lot - unfortunately, the game has been ruined by zillions of 13-year old l33t fux0rs, ch34t0rs and h4x0rs. It is practically impossible to have a decent match on any public server.

1. Shoot in "burst". 2. Neel down when shooting. 3. Aim for legs for first shot, as the "jump" will move the trajectory to the head usually around third shot, this works well especially for AK. 4. AWP is a newbie cannon, be a man, use a scout. 5. always checks corner, walk when you're the last one around.

I've had considerable luck blasting people away just by pointing the AK-47 or MP-5 at them. The best thing I've been able to do (as far as aiming goes) is aim the top hair of the sight at a person's chest and squeeze away (although, I did get someone in the head while firing random shots to cover some teammates -- a pleasant surprise)*.
*I'm still new at level names ... I'll try and describe it. Terrorists start out in a large, two or three story parking garage, with raised concrete levels at both ends of the garage. There's a small back door, and a large garage door at front. CTs (counter-terrorists) can also enter through an air vent on the roof. The head shot was on the upper level (not the roof) -- two CTs had entered through the airvent, and were in that closed off "office" on the back wall. One of my fellow terrorists was heading along the concrete walkway to engage them, and I was firing random shots (too far to aim with any hope of precision for the amount of distraction I wanted to cause) when -- boom! Malnurtured Cow got a kill!
You can fire single rounds? I wasn't aware of that -- but then, I do largely use the MP-5 Navy, although I'm rather taken with the surpressed M-16 (which, come to think of it, does fire single, doesn't it?)
I usually don't have time to kneel unless I'm camping down some dark corner. I've gotten rather good at checking corners when rounding unfamiliar territory, and I usually try and make sure I've got an HE grenade (flashbangs and smoke suck) to pitch at the enemy in the initial stages of the game at a likely "contact" point (funny story: was playing last night, the guy in front of tossed an HE through a pair of doors on one of those "Aztec" levels, followed by one thrown by me -- I registered two kills. Woohoo!)
What is an AWP? What's a "scout"? Is the AWP that bullpup gun?
Blue: try a game on "Smash or be Smashed." I think you'll like it. But don't use any cheat programs -- you'll be booted. There's almost always a clan member online (and Wake is particularly vicious).

When i had the Rainbow 6 Rogue Spear demo, i got pinned by the whole enemy team inside the museum. i was gold. i was stuck behind a glass display case. then came the fun part. I popped out from behind it and blasted on burst with my Enfield. I killed every blue guy and won the game. I got asked to join a clan. but i said no, cause i didn't have the full version. this was back when Mplayer wasn't screw'd up. that is my best memory of FPS games. i also like being the spy in TFC. it's fun knifing somebody in the back when they thought you were thier team-mate. they had a pretty colourful vocabulary too.

AWP is that Artic sniper rifle you can get (meau 4, sub-meau 6). It kills in one shot almost any part of the body, bring your health down to less then 10 when you hit the other guy on his foot.
Single shot from automative weapons is possible, but when I said "burst", I meant less then five round.
And to avoid you cheating or other cheating, get Punk Buster from www.punkbuster.com, some server requires that each player to have one, and this program basiclly makes all cheats useless.
With the kneeling part, you'll feel uneasy at first trying the manuver out, but it gets better with time, and when you get good at it, it helps alot!

All I meant was, when I'm kneeling and kill someone, I'm usually "camping" -- I find a spot (preferably dark), crouch down, and open fire when someone runs past.
Sadly, so far, when I'm running, or stepping through a sliding door, and a "baddie" is right in front of me, I squeeze the trigger first and hope for the best ... every now and then, I'll get two guys with one burst. Very rarely, however.
Once I get Counter-Strike working (my friend Mike is getting the file I need and installing it while I'm here in Arlington on vacation) and my cable modem installed (eight days!!!) my skill level will be improving greatly.
I'm rambling again, aren't I? Speaking of which, I'm trying to figure out what identity I want to use ... (BTW: "Smash or be Smashed" server can be located through www.gamespy.com).

Isn't camping the absolute worst thing you can do in these games? Doesn't it make you less popular than Omega at Democrat fund raiser? And isn't it the thing sissies do?

It isn't as though I haven't met a lot of people. Goodness knows it isn't that. It isn't just that... it isn't... it's... it's despicable.
I don't know why we didn't discuss it earlier, JeffBeer. And it IS the superior halflife mod, no doubt about it. The levels, the textures, the weapons, choreography of the models... I mostly play through GameSpy Arcade, on swedish servers because the ping is higher. I have no real problem playing in other countries but if one finds a good server with good admins and such it's hard to leave. I normally rotate through about 15 favourites. I very seldom have problems with cheaters or l33t geeks, mostly they just abuse lol, roflmao and such (wich is especially annoying if spoken by swedes on a swedish server). If someone is childish and unfair I just pull together my hombres and we shoot the guy into so much swiss cheeze. TeamKillers are Zero Tolerance and are crucified and banned where I go, so that's usually not a problem either. AWM/AWP has been restricted on some servers, a smart measure actually. There were too many incidents where 50% of BOTH teams got the AWP and sniped and camped throughout the entire match, very boring.
I don't play nearly as often as I used to, plus the vacations have "rehabilitated" me somewhat from computers, and that often help the gaming skills. If you play intensely for five weeks straight the scores tend to go down. Take a break for three weeks and the comeback will be blissful! If nothing else happens I'll go online tonight, usually between 14:00 to 18:00 EST (midnight in sweden), maybe I'll track down that place of yours and pay you a visit.

I've never tried CS but I've heard alot about it , as far as online war games , I play Infantry on Sony's The Station , the game is great , its not as advanced as CS graphics wise but the game play more then makes up for it , I've been playing now since December so I'm Semi l33t or as some bonified vets have said "On the verge of l33tness"
The game was developed by Harmless games and the makers of Subspace and was later purchased by Sony. It takes a few hours to get the game down but once your learn the alt + movement keys is the newbie strafe combo and that you can customize your key config playing becomes way more fun and you will start 0wning the newbies
If your gonna start playing I suggest starting out in the Skirmish Mechinized Zone , they have big tanks there so you can take retribution on the n00bs that kill you while your still learning
There are basiclly 3 types of games in Infantry played on differant maps
CTF , Capture the Flag
Skirmish , Capture and Hold Stratigic locations
Future Sports , Gravball & Boomball X basiclly its Killing and sports combined to please all the l33t killers
Each of These Zones have differant maps and gameplay options
About Cheaters ... Infantry is almost cheat proof , mostly the only cheat is lag , which if you have to much of , the server boots you off within seconds

Camping is what people do who are afraid of the possibility of being attacked from angles he hasn't chosen himself, or don't have enough faith in his/her reflexes or ability to dodge. Most campers also choose the same spots to do it in, making it possible to prune them out in the first minute of a match.
But the word "camper" is way overused. A camper in the true sense of the word seeks out one or two spots and stays there the rest of the match, shooting anyone who runs past.
If a player fights conventionally, then spots a person chasing him, he can find a place to stop, turn around and pounce on the unsuspecting pursuer from a chosen angle. You can be called "camper" for doing that, even if you were running while shooting, but it was a tactical choice you made on the move, against an opponent you knew would kill you if you had just charged in on him. That isn't camping. Nevertheless, it should be used with temperance or you can get a bad reputation for always avoiding direct action, camping or no camping. Of course, the concept and strategy of camping shouldn't be confused with universal rookie attitude and beginner telltales. New players always feel more exposed and threatened than senior players, which is why people should have more patience with "newbies", they were newbies too one time.
There is of course the exceptions that prove the rule. One guy in my clan has that little problem, even though he's a seasoned pro. He simply chooses to wait for the enemy to come to him many times and lets his team do the dying. Also, it seems to happen whenever I am in the opposite mood and want to "rush" the enemy camps. So then I plow through them, take three or four people with me before someone with 100 in health beats my 20. Then my friend walks in as the last team member alive, with 100 in health and full mag, and shoots the rest of the enemies who of course counted on all the enemy players leaving the base in the beginning of the match.
The difference between CounterStrike and most "frag" games is that the objective should come first, even in clan wars. It's easy to fall back in the hunter/killer role, but the point is to achieve the objectives, even if you're the last team member alive. No, especially if you're the last team member.
An extenuating circumstance to "camping" is when you are outnumbered and/or alone, in the middle or late point of the match. Then you have to use some strategy if you want to win and live. Surprise is still the number one tactical advantage, but there are other ways of achieving it than sitting down and waiting. The biggest flaw in "camping" is that you are immobile while your prey can run around, pin you down and wait for backup.
