Tonight, on the way back from town, some perv tried to grope my wife on the train. I, well, told him to fuck off and we moved to another seat. Got home, called the police, reported it. Better yet, since we'd been out with some friends from Canada, I had my digital camera with me and got a pic of the guy.

My wife's fine, she's asleep. But I'm totally frazzled now, I'm not used to encountering this sort of thing. I can be quite a scary guy, no-one fucks with me. But I can't protect my wife from this shit, and she's sitting right next to me.

I don't know what's going to happen, the least I can hope for is it goes on the national crime database and next time he tries something and it gets reported, it'll ring a few bells.

Nothing like a punch in the eye to make some perv-o think twice next time.
No cop I know would hassle you over socking some creep a good one: you're protecting your wife after all.

Good thing you got a picture of him. Most people can't tell the police anything other than what happened and a description of the perpetrator.

I don't believe in getting mad....I don't believe in getting even.

I believe in TOTAL RETALIATION.

You have the right and responsibility to enact immediate response to such aggression in a way that ensures the cessation of the attack, the least amount of harm to yourself and wife, and an exceptable minimum of damage to the antagonist while establishing that further overt behaviour will result in an escalation of the response.

The stupidity of what our society has been taught is to give in to aggressors. "Just give them what they want" mentality. Criminals now know that they don't have to fear consequences of their actions and that the society in general have become unable to defend themselves. There are never cops around when someone is getting attacked, you HAVE to defend yourself.

The shame of our age is that society now fears criminals rather than criminals fearing society.

Collar bones will heal in time. Skulls take longer. Though perhaps fingers would have been an appropriate choice.

Have her (or both of you) take self-defense. I'm taking it with school at the moment, and it's empowering to know that you can have the skill to beat people up if you ever need to. With good techniques a small person can take down a larger person, too.

As long as you can keep perspective on what you are really capable of doing in a high pressure situation, thats a really good idea.

My sweetie's got some years of experience in tae kwon do, plus a bit of street fighting... My favorite story is from when she was still playing hockey. Eleven years old, only girl in her league, got felt up during a body check, and broke his arm in three places. That's my girl. [Big Grin]

Me, I've talked my way out of getting mugged twice. *shrug* Go figure.

I gotta say, I most likely would have laid hands on this fella too. I don't tend to like confrontation, but if some jag off had grabbed my wife's crotch, I think he would've quickly found himself with my foot on his throat.

So I admire your restraint, but I believe everyone is correct when they say it would've been considered self defense. You had every right to end the assault with a proportionate response.

Hope you feel better, man. The sad thing is, it's hard to protect ourselves or others from the crap of stupid people. It's the totally unbelieveable crap like this that always gets you off guard.

My wife has a funny habit of loosing her temper and becoming violent at the drop of a hat. In fact she almost went to jail a couple of times... if it hadn't been "self defense" she'd have gone to jail for busting up that clerk at the Hess station. He DID put his hand on hers, to try to calm her down... Much to his regret. To the tune of a broken arm/shoulder/hand/nose.

Well, its not really that funny. We're working on controlling the rage. Wich is alot like trying to contain a nuclear explosion in a plastic jar.

I now have something in common with Lee. Some jackass in the video store the other night accosted Julie and grabbed her cane , almost knocking her over (she suspects he wanted her to fall into his arms), while I was on the other side of the store.

Julie FAILED to call for help because she "didn't want to cause a scene." He was gone before she wandered over and told me about it... which almost pisses me off as much as the incident in the first place.

Bastard grabbed you wife's CANE!?!
Man, they'd have been removing that cxane from the guy's rectum if I was there!

I never see that kind of crap in Fort Lauderdale.
We're hardly a "big city" though either.

What?! She presumably needs this cane to walk, right? So this asshole knocks her over? What fucking planet do these people come from? Unfortunately Kate also didn't tell me initially because she was afraid of what I might do.

Restraint? I guess. The fact is, I knew that if I went for this guy I was going to kill him. I've always wanted to try that punching his nose into his brain thing. . .

So what's happening with that incident? Did you report it? Maybe the video store will have CCV. . . I didn't hear form the police today, but I'm not giving up, I'm going to chase them on it.

I spoke to a good friend who works for one of the News International papers (Murdock's lot) but he said it's unlikely they'd show any interest in the story. So here's what I'll likely do. . .

First, get a Hotmail account. Something like '[email protected]' - can anyone think of a better (and more rememberable) name? Then, put it on a colour flyer with perv's face, and plaster them all over London to Brighton trains. And see what happens.
