I like the D&D reference there.

mmm I was just thinking...DnD is like star trek after a fashion. Monocultures...how many entries in the Monster Manual say "Always chaotic evil" or "Always lawful neutral" etc...

quote:ATHENS, Ala. (AP) The Tennessee Valley Authority shut down one of three units at the Browns Ferry nuclear plant on Thursday because water drawn from a river to cool the reactor was too hot, a spokesman said.
The nation's largest public utility shut down Unit 2 about 5:42 p.m. CDT because water drawn from the Tennessee River was exceeding a 90-degree average over 24 hours, amid a blistering heat wave across the Southeast.
"We don't believe we've ever shut down a nuclear unit because of river temperature," said John Moulton, spokesman for the Knoxville, Tenn.-based utility.

I'd be intrested to see how they managed to measure an experiment involving lightspeed that's only three feet apart.
quote:The pair say they have conducted an experiment in which microwave photons - energetic packets of light - travelled "instantaneously" between a pair of prisms that had been moved up to 3ft apart.
Er....yeah. It would certainly seem that way. Peer-review needed on asile 3.

This is another example of making photons do interesting things in ways that can never be used to transmit information or violate relativity in any other way.

Quantum tunneling is well-known. It doesn't violate relativity and it's been observed before. It *is* near instantenous, and "faster than light," but no useful information can ever be transmitted faster than light.

So these guys say they broke the speed of light, with light?
Man, high school physics class just doesn't cut it anymore...
