I am the nerdiest, most internet- and computer-addicted person I know...and I just can't wrap my mind around the popularity for these virtual worlds. It's creeping me the hell out that stuff is spilling over into real life. And it's not even real life, it's just life - online virtual worlds are not 'fake life' or something. They're games. Pointless games that give you nothing in return for your time and money except whatever sense of accomplishment you get from manipulating data sets on a server somewhere resulting in some 'good' thing happening within the game to your little character. It's frightening, literally, how seriously people take these things - and not just the crazy addicts, the otherwise-normal people who actually spend money on this stuff. Please, somebody explain the attraction to me in a way I can grasp?

Seriously? British people beat up their disabled co-workers? What's up with that?

Scissors- the great equalizer if used correctly.
Dan, I agree completely- My roomate spens like eight hours at a stretch playing that "Sims" game and I cant for the life of me figure out why he does not just leave the house and experience real life instead.

Because it's more fun to do virtual chores than it is to do real chores.

I cant imagine the word "fun" in any way applying to Sims- more like "zombie". I have never seen him smile or laugh while playing the game- he just has a vacant expression.
At least doing chores offers some nominal sense of accomplishment.

He is improving his stats! I can't think of a worthier accomplishment.
-------------------- Yes, you're despicable, and... and picable... and... and you're definitely, definitely despicable. How a person can get so despicable in one lifetime is beyond me. It isn't as though I haven't met a lot of people. Goodness knows it isn't that. It isn't just that... it isn't... it's... it's despicable.

Yeah this has been in the news cycle for a while. Just another person doing something extremely dumb and then justifying it with poor reasoning.
Edit: In Geekdom news, at last!!!

MNW: Bah! My iPhone is cooler than that. At least it's wireless! If they want to make a communicator, it shouldn't have any wires...
