Dick van Dyke looks like a very typical Dutch name to me...
IMDB.com: Richard Wayne Van Dyke (Dick van Dyke) Date of birth: 13 December 1925 Born in: West Plains, Missouri, USA

I believe that was a reference to van Dyke's role in Mary Poppins, which I understand included adopting what is generally considered among the worst imitations of a British accent ever. I don't know, though. I've never actually seen the movie.
As for the other thing... Yes, the vast majority of Americans are mindless TV-watchers. I won't go into the "religious fanatic" bit, since that pervades the entire world. After all, didn't someone just mention Ireland...? :-)

Not exactly, JK. That's how many MORE votes he gets than the original count. Gore'd have to be up by 1700 just to tie Bush.

Well I for one hope Bush does win, that Darrel guy on SNL has got to play the president enough, why give him 4 more years as Gore, let another guy make his career making fun of the president. Besides his Gore is a little weak, but that Bush guy is pretty funny. ------------------ "Life sucks, then you die"

I was watching The Daily Show last night... he and another comedian(I forgot his name) were saying that its good if Bush wins, so they can roll out more jokes.

I don't know, I see some real potential in Ferrel's Bush, especially that bit where he names off the governmental leaders of Nigeria. I couldn't stop laughing...

It restores my faith in my country as being the last best hope of the world, in that at least we're not ALL morons. Come on, Daryus. You don't see the irony in thinking we're "mindless tv watching - religious fanatics" based on a radio clip? Exactly how much do you KNOW about American culture that hasn't been fed to you, anyway?
Well, you're showing a total lack of brainpower there, old pal. Lets see, did I not point out it was a comedy show, and therefore amusing? Get with the program. There are good & bad, smart & dumb individuals everywhere. If you look in from the outside you can often see things with a certain clarity, and you my friend, are hardly clear. By the way, if you truly believe that 'last best hope for humanity' crap, you need a room with padded walls.

Well, if it is the last best hope for humanity the second coming will be here shortly.

Well, considering we're pretty well the only non-socialist modern country in the world (which I suppose means we lost the cold war), I'd say we're pretty darned close. But then, we get into arguments on the merits of socialism.
